On the field our teams continue to develop, our A grade men finished the first half of the season with three victories, their percentage is testament to how close they have been in every game & last week’s narrow loss to second place Salisbury North showed how competitive they have been. The Women’s A grade sit in 5th spot after strong wins against Westminster, Flinders Park & Lockleys over the last month, their spirited performance against both Tea Tree Gully & Hope Valley in tight losses show how far the team has come. The Women’s B’s also sit in 5thposition with wins over Hectorville, Lockleys & Hope Valley, the team continues to develop & improve as the season progresses. Our men’s B & C grade teams sit in 5th position & a real chance to play finals, the B grade have won 6 of their last 8 plus a draw last week against Salisbury North, their win against the previously undefeated ROC’s show anything is possible with this group. The C grade continue to win games against teams in the bottom half & are desperate for a big scalp, with some much needed depth flowing back through the upper grades over the next couple of weeks watch this space.
One of our football performance pillars was to improve our win/loss after a tough season last year where the club won a total of 12 games, to date we have 25.5 wins as a collective with plenty of winnable games to come in the back part of the season. We will potentially have two teams in the finals, two teams just outside & our Men’s A grade have an opportunity to shape what is above them & continue to deliver tough pressure football at a high effort level week in week out. All players, coaches & support staff should be proud of the forward steps made on field this season & we look forward to a strong finish.
A major challenge of any clubs season comes in mid-winter when injuries increase as the rigors of the game take their toll on players. I would like to highlight the wonderful job our medical team do week in week out to support & care for our players, many thanks to Pagey, Annie, Ellie & the rest of the team for your efforts.
Off field the social scene has continued to thrive. Since my last communique we have had our Past Players & Supporters Day which was a huge success, our Sponsors Day which was strongly supported by our generous donors & of course Ladies Day last weekend, arguably the biggest game day event the club has held in its history. Many thanks go out to Ann Charlesworth for coordinating the past players bbq on an incredibly busy day with all teams playing, JP Calabrese for convening our Sponsors Event & Sonia Ferrari for hosting our Ladies Day. Upcoming events are our annual Business Lunch on Friday 2nd August featuring Greg Ritchie which is a sell-out, many thanks to Pete Zollo for his efforts with this event. Also please save the date for our Presentation Dinner to be held at The Sanctuary at the Adelaide Zoo on Saturday 21stSeptember.
Since my last update our membership initiative has continued to gather numbers with 54 now signed up, thanks to Pete Ormandy for his efforts. Your member packs are available from KRO on game days if you haven’t collected them already.
I would also like to give a big shout out to Griff, Vagz, Woody, Spence & Maddog for publishing the Dropkick each week, this has been a tradition in the club for many years & some of the best reading you could ever want to enjoy. Please ensure you pay the editor’s respect by submitting your articles on time when requested.
In other exciting news the club recently was awarded a grant from the Office of Recreation & Sport under the ‘Power of Her’ initiative, our thanks go to Julia Grant who put together the lengthy proposal for consideration by the minister which lead to the eventual success of the application. This is a significant programme for our Club to develop a pathway for our women players to transition from playing to coaching and retain their relationship with the Club, you can read the full media release attached.
Our community continues to build as witnessed by the recent social events & game day attendance’s, the on field performance continues to improve & the growth of our young women & men is evident by our results, I look forward to the remainder of the season & seeing you at a game or event soon.
Go Iggies!
Regards,
Bevan.
